Co2FeO4@rGO composite: Towards trifunctional water splitting in alkaline media

Development of efficient, low cost and multifunctional electrocatalysts for water splitting to harvest hydrogen fuels is a challenging task, but the combination carbon materials with transition metal-based compounds providing unique attractive strategy. Herein, composite systems based on cobalt ferrite oxide-reduced graphene oxide (Co2FeO4) @(rGO) using simultaneous hydrothermal chemical reduction methods have been prepared. The proposed study eliminates one step associated conversion GO into rGO as it uses direct during synthesis oxide, consequently hybrid system achieved in-situ significantly, optimized Co2FeO4@rGO has revealed an outstanding applications related both oxygen evolution reaction (OER) counterpart (HER). Various metal oxidation states vacancies at surface composites guided properties. presents excellent properties onset potential 0.60 V ORR, overpotential 240 mV 20 mAcm−2 OER 320 10 HER respectively. Results that these Co2FeO4@ are high electrical conductivity, density active sites, crystal defects, vacancies, favorable electronic structure arisinng from substitution Fe Co atoms in binary spinel phase. These features synergistically uplifted electrocatalytic composites. could be interest its use wide range sustainable renewable energy fields.
